Construction Skills Queensland funding

If you or your apprentice or trainee work in the building and construction industry (including civil construction) you may be eligible to access Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding to help reduce the cost of training.

TAFE Queensland is a proud recipient of Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding. Eligible participants can receive funding to a range of training options including short courses and individual units of competency, as well as certificate, diploma and advanced diploma qualifications. Funding is limited and subject to availability.

What is Construction Skills Queensland?

Construction Skills Queensland is an independent, not-for-profit, industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices, trainees and career seeks in the building and construction industry.

CSQ provides funding to reduce the financial obstacle to training, making upskilling an affordable option for many more individuals in the building and construction industry. CSQ funding is paid directly to TAFE Queensland saving participants approximately 75% to 100% of course costs.

What is funded?

We receive funding from CSQ to provide subsidised training to the building and construction industry. CSQ funding is available for selected short courses and skills assessments and gap training. There are a range of different courses and qualifications that attract funding for each program. Click the ‘download brochure’ button under each category to access information about the program, the courses and qualifications on offer, the CSQ contribution amount and the student contribution amount (the amount you would be required to pay).

Short courses

The Short Courses Program provides eligible workers or those unemployed with funded training to update their skills and knowledge in specific areas. Funding for a number of competencies and skill sets is available for eligible participants.

Skills Assessment and Gap Training

The Skills Assessment and Gap Training Program provides a pathway for eligible participants with significant industry experience to have their skills recognised and receive the gap training required to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Higher Qualifications

The Higher Qualifications Program helps existing workers in the building and construction industry to progress their career or those who are unemployed to gain new skills to get a new start.

Short courses program

The Short Courses Program provides funded training to assist with the upskilling and cross skilling of eligible participants in the Queensland building and construction and civil construction industry. Short Courses are individual competencies and skillsets designed to provide workers with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for licences and be experts in specific and targeted areas.

Skills Assessment and Gap Training

The Skills Assessment and Gap Training (SAGT) Program provides training and assessment services to enable existing workers to have their skills and experience recognised to obtain an initial nationally recognised building and construction or civil construction qualification. Under this Program, TAFE Queensland can identify the skills you already have and provide the gap training you need.

The Program targets eligible workers in Queensland who do not hold a formal building and construction or civil construction qualification, who have strong experience in the relevant industry, and who require gap training to gain an initial Certificate III qualification.

Funding Conditions

  • Funding is available for a maximum of one qualification between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025, (an exception applies for waterproofing qualifications)
  • A minimum of 70% of the full qualification must be achieved through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Credit transfers from previous completed studies can be applied.
  • A minimum of two and a maximum of ten gap trained units is allowed
  • Complete your studies by 30 September 2025
